Centrally located between Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park & Rapid City! Located 15 miles south of Rapid City, directly off of Highway 79 in the Town of Hermosa, South Dakota.
Southern Hills RV Park & Campground provides an ideal base-station giving you plenty of room to relax and direct access to the Black Hills.
Within minutes of Mount Rushmore and Custer State Park. Located next door to a local steakhouse w/ full bar. Walking distance to Dollar General.
We called on the phone to get a space and they took our name and the site was reserved when we arrived. Extremely nice at front desk (free ice cream), escorted us to site in golf cart (very nice man), site was great! Electric and water for PA rate. Restrooms- best I've ever seen! Beautiful sunsets, nice little trail. I'd highly recommend this campground!
We stayed 3 nights at Southern Hills RV park in July 2017. The campground is well maintained and the facilities are very clean. The only downside was a lack of wifi. However, we are planning a return trip, longer stay and will definitely tell others about this hidden gem.
We stayed here in a motorhome in late June 2017 for four days. The owners are very friendly and accomodating. We found the park to be a convenient location to the sites we wanted to visit. The park is clean and well maintained. The pull-thru sites are long and level. It looked like fresh gravel throughout the campground. Although we did not make use of them, the restrooms and laundry were clean. I can highly recommend this park.
5/17-19/2017 Deena and I stayed 3 nights at the Southern Hills RV Park and found it very comfortable, friendly, and it was close to all the tourist attractions (Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Deadwood, and Custer). The new owners, Jerry and Kathy, were hard at work making improvements to their newly acquired park and getting it ready for the busy season. They are such a delightful couple. We would certainly stay there again and highly recommend it to friends and strangers alike. Larry and Deena
08-01-2016 Stayed at Southern Hills for seven nights starting July 18 so we could do all of the Black Hill and Bad lands attractions. This park is at a great location for doing everything and is only about 15 minutes south of Rapid City. While it is a very basic park, it was still perfectly acceptable for our stay. The only major downside for us was the absence of WIFI. The laundry was fine and we never used the shower facility. Pads are gravel, and could use a lot more new gravel. Nice cement patio with picnic tables at each site. Very quite and there was a nice little bar and grill right next door. Fuel was close by at a Flying J. With the Passport America discount given for 3 nights, the total price for a week was $154. If the cost was any higher, I would have to say that it would be overpriced. All-in-all, we were satisfied with the park and would recommend it.
This was a basic RV park lot with full hook-ups and no Wifi or Cable. There was a clean bathhouse and laundry area. It was about 20 minutes from Rapid City and 15 minutes from Custer. The best part of this RV park was Lynn, the camp host. She was hands down one of the friendliest people we have met on our trip. She was so nice and very helpful!
Nice place it was quiet and peaceful. There is an old time drive inn next door with two screens, we didn't go but they had movies. Great location big pull through spots. We will stay when we're back in the Black Hills area. Passport America rate can't be beat.
Stayed at Southern Hills one night in late June 2016 when passing through area. Campground host was very nice when making reservation, and greeted us upon arrival to answer any questions and welcome us to the campground. This campground had the nicest and cleanest shower and restroom facility of the 8 places we stayed on our trip. Overall a nice friendly campground and we will stay here again next time we are in this area.
What a great campground! Found this place on Passport America which is another great website to join. We were able to save 50% on our nightly rate. For $14.00 we got a 50 amp FHU site and could not have been more pleased. The owners (Colin and Bailey) were awesome. They bought this place in May 2015 and are working hard updating it. Some benefits...the sites are huge. We had our 40 foot motorhome plus a 35ft enclosed trailer and the site was big enough to accommodate us without having to unhook the trailer. There was even plenty of room for us to park our car AND put up a 15ft screen gazebo. They have concrete pads on each site and each electric stand has its own lights for making it easy to dock at night. The other benefit is the location. Located in Hermosa; they are close to Mount Rushmore, Custer Park and Crazy Horse. Rapid City is less than a 30 minute drive in order to do your grocery shopping, etc. They even have a double drive in theatre next door that brings back childhood memories. It features 2 movies on each screen for a total of 4 different movies a night. And the movies are all new releases. If you are looking for a great place to stay when visiting the Black Hills, this is it. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are here.
